After the ham-fisted way they handled dropping Kevin Pietersen, it’s not really surprising. Only in England would we drop our best player and then proceed to stink out a tournament we won just a few years ago. The problem for cricket in this country at least is that (aside from the bi-annual Ashes jamboree) it’s become an irrelevance. Signing to Sky and the vagaries of the scheduling means that apart from the Wisden devotees, by and large the rest of the nation doesn’t watch and doesn’t care about cricket. And in other news, England crash out of the cricket World Cup? It’s just a postscript.
