I love how the right pounced on John Major’s thoughtful intervention into the Brexit debate. “Yesterday’s man!” they scoffed, ignoring the fact that leading luminaries of the Leave campaign included Lord Lawson, Lord Lamont and the re-animated husk of malevolence formerly known as Lord Tebbit. Indeed, prior to June 23rd, David Davis and Liam Fox were not so much yesterday’s men as political fossils from centuries past. The only prospect they had of gaining power was through staging a coup d’etat….
